Course Evaluation

Course Evaluation at DKU

Course evaluations provide systematic feedback on students’ learning experiences in individual courses. They offer insight into instructional practices, course design, and learning environments, supporting reflection and continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

At DKU, the Office of Assessment—following the same approach used at Duke—administers course evaluations using the Watermark Course Evaluations and Surveys platform. In collaboration with school leadership, faculty, and assessment committees, the office supports the design and implementation of standard evaluation forms, which are administered to all courses in Week 6 and close on the Sunday of Week 7, prior to final exams.

Access to Watermark

Accessing Watermark from the DKU intranet will redirect users to Duke’s single sign-on (SSO). Please use your DKU NetID and password to log in.

Use of Course Evaluation Results

Course evaluation results are used at multiple levels to support reflection, improvement, and academic decision-making.

Instructional Reflection

Data User: Faculty

Instructors use student feedback to reflect on their courses and make adjustments to curriculum design and teaching strategies.

Teaching Review

Data User: APT Committee

Cross-year and cross-session course evaluation results are one source of information used by the APT Committee when reviewing teaching effectiveness, alongside other measures such as faculty self-reflection, peer review, and student learning outcomes.

Academic Planning

Data User: Division and Campus Leaders

Aggregated course evaluation data across years and sessions help division and campus leaders identify patterns and themes that inform academic planning and educational decision-making.

Institutional Review

Data User: External Agencies

Aggregate course evaluation results may be used by external agencies to review teaching and curriculum quality, together with other sources such as learning outcomes, faculty profiles, and post-graduation indicators.
